ज़िंदगी

Beyond our power are the lives we live
and in our wayward youthful years
a hasty pledge we sometimes chance to give
which to all seeing fate may ludicrous appear

जीते जो जीवन है हम, न वश में अपने ,
और जवानी के जोशीले समय में,
जब कभी खाईं कसम और वादे बांधें,
 देख कर हँस पडा भाग्य, जो  जानता सब।

its sons like u and I
of golden dreams benignant fortune
provides a definite supply.

deliver us from stage to stage,
and with those dreams we pay life's fatal
fares from our youth to our old age.
कर के तैयार खुद को ज़िंदगी के कटु सफ़र में .
पुत्र जैसे मैं और तुम ,
देखते सपने अनेकों सुनहरे ,
पूरे  होते जो केवल नियति वश 
कटते जाते साल दर साल ज़िंदगी को ढोते वाहन-
 उतारते एक से दूजी अवस्था में हमें .
और अपने स्वप्न धन से हम चुकाते
किराया युवावस्था से बुढ़ापे तक ..
